Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI)

The Organization of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI) is an Iranian non-governmental human rights organization, which was instituted in 2006 with the goal of supporting victims of human rights violations and promoting observance of human rights principles in the Middle East. Given the large volume of human rights violations in Iran and our internal preferences, the organization has divided its work between two divisions, domestic and international. It is our belief that access to fundamental human rights is the absolute right of every human being, and can be achieved by strengthening democratic principles.

In order to enforce the observance of human rights by those in power, HRAI engages in multi-media journalism, disseminating its work to the international community and the public at large. At the same time, the organization strives to serve the victims of human rights violations by providing pro bono legal services within domestic and international legal structures. HRAI supports any actions that increase the costs of human rights violations by those in power, including peaceful and cultural protest tools.

HRAI believes that establishment and strengthening of human rights is not possible with out public education about said rights and as such endeavors to educate the public by publishing books and magazines, engaging in cultural activities and conducting educational workshops.

In addition, through its collaborations with international human rights organizations HRAI strives to represents the concerns and suggestions of social and human rights organizations in Iran. HRAI is actively working on human rights issues in the following areas: Kurdestan region in Syria, Iraq and Turkey; Khoozestan region in Iraq and Kuwait, Baluchestan region in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Turkemen Sahara in Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan in the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkey.
