Burmese political prisoners have been subjected to severe torture and cruel, degrading, and, inhumane treatment for many years under an oppressive military dictatorship. For this reason, it is necessary that the international community be kept informed of the current realities so they can take concrete actions to improve the lives of political prisoners in Burma. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners in Burma was formed to document and disseminate information on the real situation of political prisoners in Burma and provide other organizations with the information necessary to conduct their activities.
