Patrick Gaubert has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004, elected on the list of the French Party UMP. He is a member of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and the European Democrats in the European Parliament. Mr. Gaubert is the vice-president of the sub-commission on Human Rights, a member of the commission on civil liberties, justice and home affairs. He also acts as a substitute member of the committee of foreign affairs, a member of the delegation for relations with Israel and a member of the joint parliamentary assembly for Africa, Caribbean and Pacific states. Furthermore, as of November 2008, Mr. Gaubert is the president of the High Council on Integration.
From 1986 to 1988, he served as special adviser in the office of the Minister for Home Affairs, responsible for combating racism. From 1993 to 1995, he was special adviser in the office of the Minister of State, Minister of Home Affairs and Regional Planning responsible for combating racism and xenophobia as well as the Coordinator for the national and departmental units for combating racism, antisemitism and xenophobia.
Since 1999, Patrick Gaubert is the president of LICRA, the International League against Racism and Antisemitism, a member of the advisory committee of the High Authority against Discrimination and for Equality and a member of the Internet Ethics Committee.
Mr. Gaubert received the Knight of the National Order of Merit in 1995 and in 2001, the Knight of the Legion of Honour. Mr. Gaubert is also a Doctor of dental surgery.
