Amer Adam was born in Zalingi, West Darfur 38 years ago. He and his family were victims of the Sudanese reaction to the first Dafuri Liberation Movement led by Dawud Bulad in 1991, which resulted in the closure of schools and other institutions, and thousands of deaths. He moved to Khartoum and studied at Alinlin University until 1993, and then moved to Cairo where he worked in tourism in South Sinai. In late 1995, he moved to the Netherlands where he was granted refugee status. In 2003, he went to live in the UK as a European citizen.
Amer founded the Dafur Communities in UK and Northern Ireland and has since been actively involved in supporting Dafurian refugees both in Britain and in Sudan. After the aid agencies were forced out of the Darfuri refugee camps in Chad in 2009, Amer organised and distributed a collection of humanitarian educational materials. He has spoken extensively on humanitarian issues in Darfur and the South of Sudan, calling for international action.
