
Nazanin Afshin-Jam is an international human rights activist and co-founder and President of "Stop Child Executions" organization. She is also a singer/songwriter, actor, former Miss World Canada and a director on the board of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation by the office of the Prime Minister of Canada.
Nazanin began to be a "voice for the voiceless" at a young age. In high school she founded a Global Issues club, received the top academic honour and became a pilot and achieved the highest rank in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets as Warrant Officer First Class. After a double major degree in International Relations and Political Science at UBC, Sciences Po in Paris and the ISC in the UK, she became an advocate with the Red Cross as a Global Youth Educator on the landmine crisis and children affected by war. In 2003, she won Miss Canada and became 1st runner up at Miss World giving her the platform she sought to raise awareness and funds for the Bam Earthquake, the 2004 Tsunami, Fistula patients in Ethiopia, Variety the Children's Charity; youth advocacy to bridge the digital divide and a movement to stop bear bile farming in Asia. In 2006 Nazanin successfully ran a campaign to save the life of Nazanin Fatehi, a juvenile sentenced to death for stabbing her assailant in self defense. She then co-founded Stop Child Executions www.stopchildexecutions.com to put a permanent end to executions of juveniles. Meanwhile, Nazanin released a multilingual album called "Someday" charting hits in Canada, USA and Europe. Last year Nazanin was appointed to the board of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation through the office of the Prime Minister of Canada.
Later this year, Nazanin will be, playing the role of "Tahirih" in the feature film Mona's Dream, launching a report on juvenile executions in the UK Parliament via the Foreign Policy Center and continuing with her activism giving speeches at parliaments and conferences on human rights worldwide.
