Shirin
Shirin

Shirin grew up in a remote Yazidi village in Northern Iraq with aspirations of becoming a lawyer. At age 17, in August 2014, her life took a shattering turn as ISIS captured her village and sold her into sex slavery. During nine months of brutal captivity, Shirin was repeatedly abused and raped as she was forced into nine separate marriages with ISIS terrorists. Following an escape to Germany in 2015, Shirin worked with journalist Alexandra Cavelius to chronicle her heart wrenching story into the recently published book I Remain a Daughter of the Light.
